Description
International Shipholding Corporation, through its subsidiaries, provides international and domestic maritime transportation services to commercial and governmental customers primarily under the medium to long-term time charters or contracts of affreightment in the United States and internationally. The company operates through six segments: Jones Act, Pure Car Truck Carriers, Dry Bulk Carriers, Rail-Ferry, Specialty Contracts, and Other. As of December 31, 2014, it owned and operated 54 ocean-going vessels, including 2 handysize bulk carriers, 3 tug-barge units, 1 harbor tug, 1 belt self-unloading coal carrier, and 1 molten sulphur carrier that transport various cargoes in the U.S. coastwise trade. The company also owned 4 U.S. flag and 3 international flag pure car/truck carriers to transport fully assembled automobiles, trucks, and larger vehicles. Additionally, it operated 1 Capesize bulk carrier and 1 Supramax bulk carrier. There were also 2 international flag multi-purpose vessels, 2 international flag tankers, and 3 international flag container vessels, which serviced the contract to transport supplies for an Indonesian mining company's operations. Furthermore, the company's ocean-going vessels included 16 international flag mini-bulk carriers, 2 chemical tankers, and 2 asphalt tankers. It operated 2 international flag special purpose roll-on/roll-off double deck vessels, which carry rail cars between the U.S. Gulf Coast and Mexico. The fleet also consisted of 2 U.S. flag container vessels, 1 international flag ice strengthened multi-purpose vessel, and 1 U.S. flag multi-purpose heavy lift dry cargo vessel. In addition to these services, it provides ship and cargo charter brokerage and agency services. International Shipholding Corporation was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Mobile, Alabama.
