Ecopetrol S.A. operates as an integrated energy company. The company operates through four segments: Exploration and Production; Transport and Logistics; Refining and Petrochemicals; and Electric Power Transmission and Toll Roads Concessions. The Exploration and Production segment includes activities related to the exploration and production of oil and gas. Its Transport and Logistics segment includes the transportation of crude oil, motor fuels, fuel oil, and other refined products, including diesel, jet fuel, and biofuels. The Refining and Petrochemicals segment offers middle distillate products, gasoline, and other refined products. The Electric Power Transmission and Toll Roads Concessions segment's revenues mainly include electricity transmission services, as well as designing, building, operating, and maintaining road concessions infrastructure and telecommunications services. It also operates crude oil pipeline systems with an operating capacity of 1,489 thousand barrels per day in 2023. In addition, the company's main refineries are the Barrancabermeja refinery, which it directly owns and operates, and a refinery in the Free Trade Zone in Cartagena that is operated by Refinería de Cartagena S.A.S., a subsidiary of the company. Additionally, it owns and operates two other minor refineries, Orito and Apiay. The company was formerly known as Empresa Colombiana de Petróleos and changed its name to Ecopetrol S.A. in June 2003. Ecopetrol S.A. was incorporated in 1948 and is headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia.
