Description
Flood Re is a joint initiative between the UK Government and the insurance industry created to make the flood cover within household insurance more affordable and widely available. It works behind the scenes by offering reinsurance to household insurers at fixed, council‑tax‑band‑based premiums, so that higher‑risk homes can obtain quotes and reasonable excesses. The scheme is time‑limited and transitional, with a mandate to help the market move to risk‑reflective pricing by 2039. Flood Re also promotes resilience, including the Build Back Better initiative to fund property flood‑resilience measures after a claim. Its operations and reports cover the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
