The problem
While progress has been made in reducing the global suicide rate, suicide remains the second-highest cause of death among people aged 15 to 29. There remains a stigma around mental health in many countries; more concerted efforts are required to improve support systems for individuals struggling with depression and mental health issues, to address bullying and other factors that contribute to poor mental health, and to offer mental health services as part of healthcare insurance plans. Companies play a critical role on several levels, including through the healthcare benefits they provide to workers and families; the workforce culture they foster (and how open and supportive it is); how well they create productive employment opportunities (which can have a significant impact on mental health); and their involvment in media that can contribute to mental health issues (such as social media sites and advertising)
